Frequently Asked Question

Planning

Tou Dao Tang is a holistic wellness centre specialising in herbal scalp and hair care inspired by traditional Chinese and Miao practices. Unlike salon services focused mainly on styling or hair strands, its treatments begin with the scalp and combine cleansing, freshly prepared herbal decoctions, massage, relaxation and personalised care.

Choose One Soup for a shorter introductory scalp cleanse, or Three Soups for the fuller signature ritual with detoxifying, revitalising and nourishing stages. Consider Full-Body Herbal Revitalisation for a longer head-to-toe experience, or Body Acupressure or Herbal Oil Massage when muscular relaxation is your main priority.

One Soup is a 45-minute introductory treatment centred on scalp detoxification, cleansing, massage, scalp checks and blow-drying. Three Soups lasts 60 minutes and adds revitalising and nourishing herbal stages, foot moxibustion, follicle purification, scalp serum and silk essence. It represents the more complete signature Tou Dao Tang ritual.

Published prices include One Soup at RM139, with an RM99 online offer, Three Soups at RM159, body services from RM129 and full-body options from RM399. Prices and promotions may change, so confirm inclusions and extra charges when booking. You may choose one session and should never feel pressured to purchase a package.

Couple, friend, family, corporate or group bookings may be available, depending on each branch’s rooms, capacity and therapist schedule. Contact the branch with guest numbers, treatments and preferred timing; simultaneous appointments are not automatic. For gifts, confirm voucher availability, treatment value, validity, eligible branches, booking method, transferability and extension or refund terms.

Pre Arrival

It may be suitable, but timing and hair condition matter. Chemical services can temporarily sensitise the scalp or weaken hair, while deep cleansing may affect fresh or fashion colour. Tell the branch which service you received, when it was done and any stylist restrictions. Postpone if the scalp remains sore, broken or irritated.

Tou Dao Tang requires safe access to the scalp for observation, detangling, cleansing, rinsing and drying. Extensions, tight braids, dreadlocks, glued pieces, wigs or protective styles may restrict access and prevent certain steps. Contact the branch beforehand with the style and attachment method; removal or a modified service may be necessary.

Tou Dao Tang welcomes adults of different genders and can generally accommodate short, long, straight, wavy, curly or coily hair when the scalp is accessible. Hijabi guests should state privacy and therapist-gender preferences before booking. Confirm the selected branch’s private space, drying facilities, service time and ability to manage your hair texture.

Arrive with your scalp in its normal condition, hair reasonably detangled and minimal heavy styling products. You usually need not wash immediately beforehand because cleansing is included. Avoid scratching or exfoliating the scalp. Share allergies, medical conditions, recent chemical services, extensions and comfort needs, and arrive about ten minutes early.

Book through Tou Dao Tang Malaysia’s online booking link or contact your chosen branch. Walk-ins depend on therapist and room availability, so advance booking is recommended. Arrive about ten minutes early and call immediately if delayed. Cancellation, rescheduling, no-show and deposit terms may vary; confirm them in writing before payment.

Arrival

Your first visit normally includes check-in, a brief consultation, hair-root detangling, scalp observation, your selected herbal treatment and massage, cleansing, a final scalp check where included, and blow-drying. Tell the therapist about sensitivities, allergies, health conditions and comfort preferences so the service can be adjusted safely.

Expect clean treatment surfaces, fresh linens, disinfected reusable tools, appropriate single-use items, hygienic product dispensing and hand hygiene between guests. Beds, basins, head supports and frequently touched areas should be cleaned. Report suspected lice, infection or open wounds beforehand. Ask the therapist or manager immediately if anything appears unsafe or unclean.

Pre Treatment

Tou Dao Tang may remove everyday oil, loose flakes, residue and product buildup, helping the scalp feel cleaner and more comfortable. One Soup and Three Soups are designed around cleansing. However, persistent dandruff, severe itching, redness, sores or recurring symptoms may have medical causes and should be assessed by a doctor or dermatologist.

The “soups” are herbal decoctions used externally during the scalp ritual, not food or drinks. They are prepared from a traditional Miao-inspired formula and generally have a botanical herbal aroma, although intensity varies. Natural ingredients can still irritate or cause allergies, so request the current ingredient list and disclose sensitivities before treatment.

Guests with mild sensitivity may be suitable for a modified treatment, but every case is different. Herbal decoctions, shampoo, serum, essence, aromatherapy, oils or warming elements may irritate sensitive skin. Contact the branch beforehand, provide known allergens, request ingredient information and stop immediately if burning, swelling, rash or breathing difficulty occurs.

Pregnancy or breastfeeding does not automatically exclude every service, but the exact treatment must be assessed first. Herbal products, aromatherapy, massage, heat, moxibustion, Gua Sha, prolonged positioning or herbal baths may be unsuitable. Consult your doctor and contact the branch before booking so safe modifications and positioning can be confirmed.

Postpone treatment for open wounds, bleeding, pus, weeping skin, suspected infection, untreated lice, ringworm, severe inflammation, recent scalp surgery or an unexplained painful rash. Seek medical advice if massage, heat, herbs, oils or prolonged positioning may affect a health condition. Never attend while contagious, feverish or medically unstable.

Possibly, when the condition is mild, stable, uninfected and the skin is intact. Tou Dao Tang does not cure psoriasis, eczema, seborrhoeic dermatitis or scalp acne. Contact the branch before booking and describe current symptoms. During an active flare, or if uncertain about herbs, fragrance, heat or massage, consult your dermatologist first.

Tou Dao Tang provides wellness and cosmetic scalp care, not medical diagnosis or treatment. See a doctor or dermatologist for sudden or severe hair loss, bald patches, scarring, painful or pus-filled lesions, persistent bleeding, spreading rash, suspected infection or symptoms that continue despite ordinary care. Emergencies require urgent medical help, not a spa appointment.

During Treatment

Yes. Scalp rejuvenation and full-body herbal services involve cleansing, so your hair becomes fully wet and blow-drying is included. The finish is a practical dry, not salon styling. Haircuts, curling, straightening or specialised curl routines are not included. Tell the branch about very long, thick or textured hair when booking.

You may request a preferred therapist, therapist gender or privacy arrangement, subject to branch availability and confirmation. Massage pressure, water temperature, room comfort, scent and positioning should be discussed and adjusted where possible. Consent continues throughout treatment: report pain, dizziness or discomfort immediately, and pause or stop the service whenever necessary.

Post Treatment

After a suitable treatment, you may notice a cleaner, fresher-feeling scalp, lighter roots, softer-feeling hair, less everyday buildup, reduced head or shoulder tension and deeper relaxation. Results vary by scalp condition, hair type, lifestyle and aftercare. Head spa supports cosmetic scalp wellness; it is not an instant medical solution.

Keep the rest of the day gentle, avoid scratching and do not introduce several new products. Because cleansing and blow-drying are included, another immediate wash is usually unnecessary; ask whether any product should remain. To preserve comfort, consider delaying heavy exercise, sauna or swimming, especially if your scalp is sensitive, and follow branch-specific advice.

Follow Up

Tou Dao Tang supports a cleaner, better-cared-for scalp and provides relaxing massage, but it cannot guarantee stopped hair loss, regrowth or permanent reversal of grey hair. Genetics, hormones, nutrition, illness, medication and scalp disorders can affect hair. Sudden shedding, bald patches, pain or scarring requires medical assessment.

There is no universal schedule. For maintenance and relaxation, many guests may find every three to four weeks sufficient. Oil, sweat or product buildup may justify a shorter initial interval, while sensitive or dry scalps may need longer. Start with one session and base future bookings on your scalp’s response, not package pressure.
